• Ukraine's squad given strong incentive to make progress
• Germany's players would receive €300,000 each

Ukraine's squad could earn a maximum of €13m (£10.5m) in bonuses if the co-hosts win Euro 2012, the head of the country's football federation has confirmed.

"We have better financial incentives in comparison with the premiums of other teams," the Ukraine FA president, Hryhory Surkis, was quoted as saying on the Ukrainian Euro 2012 committee website.

Surkis said the Ukraine players, among the outsiders in the 16-team tournament which gets under way on Friday, will share €500,000 for each group stage victory, with €250,000 for a draw.

Qualifying for the quarter-finals will earn a further €2m, as will reaching the semi-finals. Reaching the final carries a bonus of €3m and another €4.5m will be paid if Ukraine win the tournament.

Ukraine open their Group D campaign against Sweden in Kiev on 11 June, before facing France in Donetsk on 15 June, then England in the same city on 19 June.

Denmark's players will receive a bonus of €404,000 each if they win the tournament, Germany's players have been promised €300,000, and France will pay bonuses of €320,000 each.

Ukraine expect all of their players struck down by a mystery stomach bug to be fit for Monday. The illness swept through the squad on Tuesday and almost led to the cancellation of the 2-0 friendly defeat against Turkey on Tuesday night but the team spokesman Oleksander Glyvinsky said the affected players were now on the road to recovery.

"They were out running this morning, so we would expect that they will all be fine for the opening game against Sweden," he said. Read More
