• Dutch international held talks with Paul Lambert over weekend
• 'Joining Aston Villa would be a dream come true,' he says
The Dutch international defender Ron Vlaar has said it would be a "dream come true" for him to move from Feyenoord to Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old, who made two appearances for Holland in Euro 2012, held talks with the Villa manager, Paul Lambert, over the weekend. He told De Telegraaf newspaper: "I was on Sunday in Birmingham to have talks with Paul Lambert and left with a very positive impression.
"Joining Aston Villa would be a dream come true. I look forward to the Premier League but I will miss Feyenoord. I feel at home at De Kuip and although both me personally and the club have had a lot of ups and downs, we have maintained a good relationship. The stadium, the fans, my team-mates and staff... if the deal goes through I will miss them."
Vlaar, who has yet to agree personal terms on the potential move, explained that he had intended to keep his visit to Birmingham a secret. "It was only to get acquainted," he said. But upon arriving at Villa Park he ran into a group of tourists on a stadium tour and was recognised. "You know this sort of thing happens," he said. "In this fast Twitter world you can't keep anything secret."
Vlaar has won nine caps for Holland and, should he sign, will boost Villa's defensive ranks weakened by Carlos Cuellar's move to Sunderland. Read More
