Beckham's salary cut to $3m per year by LA Galaxy as New York Red Bulls' French star Thierry Henry tops MLS money charts

David Beckham has been replaced as US football's highest earner after his salary was cut nearly 40% in a new contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The former England captain has a base salary of $3m this year and guaranteed compensation of $4m, according to figures released Friday by the Major League Soccer players union.

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry now tops the MLS money charts, with a base salary $5m and total compensation of $5.6m.

Beckham had been earning a total annual compensation of $6.5m under a $32.5m, five-year contract with Galaxy.

But that expired at the end of the 2011 season.

Beckham is bested by Henry, and the Frenchman's New York Red Bulls teammate Rafa Marquez was second at $4.6m total compensation.

Robbie Keane, who followed Beckham to America's west coast after a successful career in the Premier League, is on a contract ensuring almost $3.5m total annual pay. Read More
