• Chelsea striker seeks to make Champions League history
• Drogba keen to atone for the misery of Moscow in 2008

Didier Drogba believes Chelsea deserve their place in this weekend's Champions League final given how close they came to winning the competition four years ago. The striker was part of the team that lost on penalties to Manchester United in Moscow and, while not keen to dwell on that occasion, he does regard it as a source of motivation ahead of the meeting with Bayern Munich.

Drogba, who was sent off in extra time after the 90 minutes of the 2008 final were drawn 1-1, said: "After Moscow we thought we were going to get to the final the next year. But that's the Champions League, it's very difficult to reach the final and that shows how much we deserve to be there today. It's not good to speak about the past because we have a great moment here. I'm going to try to make sure that for my team-mates, this is a great one."

The 34-year-old is a likely starter for Saturday's match at the Allianz Arena having scored three times in his past six appearances for Chelsea, with all the strikes coming in key games: the 5-1 FA Cup semi-final win against Tottenham, the 1-0 Champions League semi-final, first-leg victory over Barcelona and the 2-1 FA Cup final triumph over Liverpool, during which the Ivorian also put in a man-of-the-match display.

The encounter with Bayern could well be Drogba's last in a Chelsea shirt given the forward's contract ends in the summer and there has been little suggestion that the club, whom he joined from Marseille for £24m in 2004 and has gone on to score 156 goals in 341 appearances, will offer him a new deal.

That is not an issue Drogba is willing to discuss ahead of what he has described as "one of the biggest games" of his life. "I've played a lot [of big games] with Chelsea but this one is going to be special because it's only the second time we have reached the Champions League final," said Drogba. "We are going to do everything to go there and be ready to play against this German team."

Meanwhile, David Luiz feels confident he will be fit enough to play in what will be his first ever Champions League final appearance. The Brazilian trained for the first time on Tuesday, having not played for Chelsea since injuring his hamstring in the FA Cup semi-final win against Spurs on 15 April.

"I took treatment every day, in the morning, in the afternoon and evening," the 25-year-old defender said. "People don't know that but I was always hopeful and now I'm so I'm happy because I am 100% for training. When I was a kid in Brazil it was my dream [to play in final] and now I get my chance. Everyone [in Brazil] will stop in to watch the game. This is the best game in the world for big teams and I hope we win." Read More
