• Robin van Persie scores twice in 6-0 win in Amsterdam
• Cristiano Ronaldo misses penalty in 3-1 home defeat to Turkey

Robin van Persie scored twice in the first half for Holland in their 6-0 thrashing of Northern Ireland, while Portugal suffered a shock 3-1 home defeat by Turkey.

The Dutch played the side that is likely to start their opening Euro 2012 game against Denmark, and they were 4-0 up at the break after the Arsenal striker scored with a header on 11 minutes and then converted a penalty. Ibrahim Afellay, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, also claimed a double for the 1988 European champions with Wesley Sneijder and the central defender Ron Vlaar adding the other goals.

The Portuguese drew with Macedonia last weekend in Leiria and were 2-0 down to Turkey early in the second period in Lisbon. Nani pulled one back in the 57th minute but Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty eight minutes later, and a Pepe own goal completed the home side's misery.

Denmark eased past Australia with Daniel Agger scoring a first-half penalty in their 2-0 victory and the co-hosts Poland wrapped up their preparations with a 4-0 romp over Andorra. The Poles will lean heavily on the Borussia Dortmund trio – the striker Robert Lewandowski, captain Jakub Blaszczykowski and defender Lukasz Piszczek – in the Euros and all three started against Andorra. Ludovic Obraniak opened the scoring in the 13th minute and Robert Lewandowski made it 2-0 nine minutes before half-time. Poland, who have now gone five matches without conceding a goal, added a third through Jakub Blaszczykowski before Marcin Wasilewski completed the rout with a 77th-minute penalty.

The Poles have had little to celebrate in recent years, but hopes are high among the fans that Franciszek Smuda's team can advance beyond the group stage where they will meet Russia, Czech Republic and Greece.

Croatia drew 1-1 with Norway in Oslo after Eduardo gave the visitors the lead with 11 minutes remaining and Tarik Elyounoussi equalised in the dying seconds. Read More
