• West Ham believed to want England striker on loan
• Permanent transfer for £15m could follow

Sam Allardyce is believed to be about to make a bid for Liverpool's England striker Andy Carroll. West Ham are proposing an initial loan with a view to buying the 23-year-old for around £15m who signed from Newcastle United for £35m in January, 2011.

West Ham, returning to the Premier League after their relegation last year, may face opposition for Carroll from a number of other clubs after reports emerged suggesting Liverpool had let it be known that they were willing to listen to offers for the player.

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, said on Monday that the possibility of loaning Carroll is "something I would have to look at" although he did indicate that he would give the forward time to see if he would fit into his plans at Anfield. Read More
