Miller close to agreement over Rangers' future
Rangers' administrators have revealed that the American businessman Bill Miller is close to reaching agreement with Scotland's football authorities regarding the scale of any penalties for a newly formed club.
Miller's £11.2m takeover plan for Rangers includes running the club as a fresh entity as the old business exits administration. Miller would then merge the companies. With the Scottish Premier League set to vote on financial fair play proposals on 30 April, Miller wants assurances over what sanctions such a scenario would trigger.
Paul Clark, Rangers' joint administrator, said: "He is speaking to the Scottish FA and SPL. Some of those discussions we have been involved in, some of them we haven't and I don't think anyone should read anything into the ones that we have or haven't.
"He has used words like 'guarantee' – I think 'comfort' would be a better word. One could liken it to seeking parameters of the measures they could take. They are very close if they are not already there."
On the expected size of sanctions, Clark added: "The prospect of it being no measures is I think nil, it's not going to happen is it? But having the parameters of what those measures look like is what he is seeking.
"Miller is an experienced businessman and he put out a fairly full and open statement of his position. I am assuming that even from afar he is doing so for all the right reasons and with the right intentions."
The administrators hope to name a preferred bidder . The Blue Knights consortium, possibly in conjunction with the Sale Sharks owner, Brian Kennedy, are expected to make another offer before the announcement is made. Ewan Murray
Dortmund retain title
Borussia Dortmund have retained the Bundesliga title after beating Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0. Ivan Perisic scored in the 23rd minute and Shinji Kagawa in the 59th to start the celebrations as Dortmund claimed their eighth league championship.
"There are no words to describe what the players have done," Dortmund coach, Jürgen Klopp, said. "It was the biggest challenge to win the game. [The captain] Sebastian Kehl got the players going before the game. That was cool."
Dortmund now have an unassailable eight-point lead over Bayern Munich. The chief executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke, said: "This was a perfect Saturday. To deliver such a concentrated performance shows our quality."
Kaiserslautern, meanwhile, were relegated despite a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Hertha Berlin. AP
Second collapse in Serie B
Another Serie B player collapsed during a match yesterday, a week after Piermario Morosini suffered a cardiac arrest and died while playing for Livorno against Pescara.
The Nocerina defender Marco Pomante fell to the ground with no one around him two minutes into the second half of his side's 4-0 defeat by Reggina and received prolonged treatment. However, after being examined at Nocera Inferiore's San Francesco hospital, he was later discharged, with doctors believing whiplash had caused the incident. Clubs across Italy paid tribute to Morosini before Saturday 's games. Reuters
